Aufsteigen, losfahren und vor allem sicher ankommen, das ist das Motto der Firma Germot. Seit über 40 Jahren am Markt, hat sich das Unternehmen als Hersteller von Motorradbekleidung und als Distributor von Fremdmarken ein solides Fundament in Sachen Bekleidung, Helme und Zubehör geschaffen. Vom Firmensitz in Dreieich, im Herzen des Rhein-Main-Gebietes, wird das Händlernetz mit Ware versorgt, aber auch vor Ort kann man im eigenen Outlet schauen und shoppen. Bei einem dieser Besuche fiel uns der Germot GM970 in die Hände. Eine erste Anprobe machte bereits neugierig. Ein Klapphelm, der mit einem Preis von gerade einmal 159,90 Euro als eher günstig, ja manche würden fast schon sagen billig in diesem Segment angeboten wird, kann der was? Christian Brogl der Chef im Hause meint ja und auch die Zeitschrift Motorrad bezeichnet ihn in der Ausgabe 11/2024 als echten Kauftipp mit einer guten Bewertung. Also hat uns Christian kurzerhand einen Grauen 970er zum Testen gegeben und wir waren damit unterwegs.
Der Germot Klapphelm GM 970
Aus unserer Sicht ist er ein perfekter Begleiter sowohl im täglichen Stadtverkehr als auch auf längeren Touren. Dabei überzeugt zum einen seine sehr gute Passform, zum anderen aber auch die Tatsache, dass er sowohl als Integralhelm als auch als Jethelm getragen werden kann. Das garantiert maximale Flexibilität, auch wenn die Arretierung über einen kleinen Schieber (links an der Visiermechanik) mit dicken Handschuhen etwas schwer zu finden ist. Dafür sorgt die innovative Einhandbedienung des Frontteils im Handumdrehen für ein einfaches Öffnen und sicheres Arretieren beim Schließen selbst während der Fahrt. Die Windgeräusche im geschlossenen Zustand waren auf der BMW R1200R mit Bikiniverkleidung gut, auf unserer nackten W800 sogar noch besser, da hier das Problem der Windabrisskante an der Verkleidungsscheibe nicht bestand.
Für klare Sicht unter allen Bedingungen sorgt ein kratzfestes Visier mit Pinlock® 70, das über ein ausreichend großes Sichtfeld verfügt. Ein Pinlock in einer größeren Größe würde dem Helm allerdings sehr gut stehen, denn als Brillenträger hat man schon mal mehrere Rahmen gleichzeitig vor den Augen. Je nachdem, welche Brille man trägt. Das Aufsetzen der Brille hingegen ist sehr einfach und es entstehen auch keine Druckstellen, da genügend Platz vorhanden ist. Abgerundet wird die gesamte Frontpartie durch eine integrierte Sonnenblende, die weit ins Gesicht hineinreicht. Mit der Quick Release Visiermechanik ist der Visierwechsel schnell erledigt. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt ist die Rastung, die für eine angenehme Belüftungsstellung des Visiers sorgt. Als Ergänzung zum bereits vorhandenen Belüftungssystem (zwei Schieber am Kopf und ein Schieber am Kinn) sorgt dies in Verbindung mit dem Luftauslass am Hinterkopf für eine gute Frischluftzufuhr. Zudem unterstreicht das Design das sportliche Aussehen des GM 970. Durchdachte Details wie ein Antiregenprofil, doppelter antiturbulenter Nackenschutz, abnehmbarer Windstopper und Nasenspoiler bieten zusätzlichen Schutz und spürbaren Komfort beim Motorradfahren.
Die Innenausstattung ist angenehm zu tragen, hautfreundlich und natürlich herausnehmbar und waschbar. Wer zusätzlich Kommunikation im Helm haben möchte, findet zwei große Aussparungen für die jeweiligen Lautsprecher im Inneren und erfreulicherweise eine große Fläche rechts oder links an der Helmschale, wo man das Bedienteil z.B. des Cardo Packtalk Edge perfekt befestigen kann.
Und auch äußerlich kann der 1600g leichte Klapphelm mit seiner ABS-Polycarbonat-Mischschale (ECE 22.06 zertifiziert) glänzen. Seine hochwertige Mehrschichtlackierung mit UV-Schutz schützt den Helm vor äußeren Einflüssen wie z.B. zu schnellem Verkratzen. Geschlossen wird er mit einem Micro Metric genannten Helmverschluss und verbindet auch hier modernste Technik mit maximaler Praktikabilität. Erhältlich ist er in den Größen XS bis 2XL und hier noch ein kleines „Leider“ nur in den Unifarben weiß, grau und schwarz, was wir sehr schade finden.
Fazit
Wer einen günstigen Helm sucht, den er sowohl als Jet- als auch als Integralhelm nutzen möchte, ist mit dem GM 970 von Germot definitiv nicht schlecht beraten. Neben Tragekomfort und Preis überzeugt er mit ausreichend Platz, gerade auch für Brillenträger und guter Performance. Wir können also das Ergebnis, das die Zeitschrift Motorrad bereits veröffentlicht hat, nur bestätigen und freuen uns auf viele weitere Kilometer damit.

Test of the Germot GM970: comfort and functionality combined

During one of these visits, the Germot GM970 fell into our hands. A first fitting made us curious. A flip-up helmet which, at a price of just 159.90 euros, is offered at a rather favourable price – some would almost say cheap in this segment – is it any good? Christian Brogl, the head of the company, thinks so, and Motorrad magazine also described it as a real buying tip with a good rating in its 11/2024 issue. So Christian gave us a grey 970 to test and we took it for a spin.
The Germot GM 970 flip-up helmet
In our opinion, it is the perfect companion for both everyday city traffic and longer tours. Its excellent fit and the fact that it can be worn both as a full-face helmet and as a jet helmet are impressive. This guarantees maximum flexibility, even if the locking mechanism via a small slider (on the left of the visor mechanism) is somewhat difficult to find with thick gloves. On the other hand, the innovative one-handed operation of the front section ensures easy opening and secure locking when closing, even while riding. The wind noise when closed was good on the BMW R1200R with bikini fairing, and even better on our naked W800, as there was no problem with the wind tear-off edge on the windscreen.
A scratch-resistant visor with Pinlock® 70, which has a sufficiently large field of vision, ensures a clear view in all conditions. However, a Pinlock in a larger size would suit the helmet very well, because if you wear glasses, you may have several frames in front of your eyes at the same time. Depending on which glasses you wear. Putting on the goggles, on the other hand, is very easy and there are no pressure points as there is enough space. The entire front section is rounded off by an integrated sun visor that extends far into the face. The quick release visor mechanism makes changing the visor quick and easy. Another plus point is the locking mechanism, which ensures a comfortable ventilation position for the visor. In addition to the existing ventilation system (two sliders on the head and one slider on the chin), this ensures a good supply of fresh air in conjunction with the air outlet at the back of the head. The design also emphasises the sporty look of the GM 970, while well thought-out details such as an anti-rain profile, double anti-turbulence neck protection, removable wind stopper and nose spoiler offer additional protection and noticeable comfort when riding a motorbike.
The interior is comfortable to wear, skin-friendly and of course removable and washable. If you also want to have communication in the helmet, there are two large recesses for the respective loudspeakers inside and, fortunately, a large area on the right or left of the helmet shell where you can perfectly attach the control unit, e.g. of the Cardo Packtalk Edge.
The 1600g lightweight flip-up helmet also impresses on the outside with its ABS polycarbonate shell (ECE 22.06 certified). Its high-quality multi-layer coating with UV protection protects the helmet from external influences such as rapid scratching. It is fastened with a helmet fastener called Micro Metric, combining state-of-the-art technology with maximum practicality. It is available in sizes XS to 2XL and, unfortunately, only in the plain colours white, grey and black, which we think is a shame.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for an affordable helmet that you can use both as a jet and full-face helmet, the GM 970 from Germot is definitely not a bad choice. In addition to comfort and price, it also offers sufficient space, especially for spectacle wearers, and good performance. We can therefore only confirm the result that Motorrad magazine has already published and look forward to many more kilometres with it.
