Helmtest: Shoei Glamster (English below)

Shoei hat sich nun wirklich etwas länger Zeit gelassen einen schnörkellosen Retro Integralhelm auf dem Markt zu platzieren. Dadurch hatten anderen Herstellern zunächst einmal gefühlt einen kleinen Vorsprung und die Verkaufsbühne für sich. Doch damit ist jetzt Schluss, denn mit dem Shoei Glamster betritt ein Helmkandidat den Ring, der für Aufsehen sorgen wird und dem einen oder anderen Mitbewerber Kopfzerbrechen bereiten dürfte. Also ganz selbstsicher mit Muhammad Ali gesprochen I AM THE GREATEST. 😊

Shoei has now really taken a little longer to place a no-frills retro full-face helmet on the market. This gave other manufacturers the feeling that they had a small advantage and the sales stage for themselves. But that’s over now, because with the Shoei Glamster a helmet candidate enters the ring, which will cause a sensation and might cause headaches for one or the other competitor. So I AM THE GREATEST talked confidently to Muhammad Ali. 😊

Warum das so ist? Nun bewusst hat Shoei bei seinem Neuen Modell auf modernste Fertigungstechniken und hochwertige Materialien geachtet. So besteht z.B. die sehr schlank und leicht oval wirkende Außenhaut aus Fiberglas, fachlich auch als (Fiberglas-Schale AIM-Advanced Integrated Matrix) bezeichnet. Sie trägt mit ihrer Bauform dazu bei, dass sich der Glamster genau so trägt wie er auf den ersten Blick aussieht. Kurz gesagt einfach cool und mit rund 1200 Gramm (je nach Ausstattungsmerkmalen 1165-1200 Gramm) genauso leicht, sicher, robust und klassisch, wie man sich das vorstellt. Neben der wertig und stylisch lackierten Außenhaut schmeichelt ebenfalls das hochwertige EPS- Innenfutter, welches es in zwei Stärken und unterschiedlichen Dämpfungsgraden gibt. Das sehr anschmiegsame Innenleben gefällt rund um und an den Anlageflächen des Kopfes. Zudem ist es natürlich antibakteriell, bietet auch für Brillenträger reichlich Platz rund um die Ohren und man kann es zum Waschen herausnehmen. Weiters ist das sogenannte E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick Release System) verbaut, welches die Helmabnahme im Notfall vereinfacht. Zu erkennen ist das System an den Aufklebern rechts und links vorne sowie den beiden Laschen unten am Futter. Ganz Retro wird der Glamster dann auch mit einem Doppel D Verschluss gesichert, der nach einiger Übung ebenso leicht zu betätigen ist wie die heutzutage oft verwendeten Ratschen Verschlüsse.

In addition to the high-quality and stylishly painted outer skin, the high-quality EPS inner lining, which is available in two thicknesses and different degrees of shock absorption, is also very flattering. The very cuddly inner life pleases around and on the contact surfaces of the head. In addition, it is naturally antibacterial, offers ample space around the ears even for spectacle wearers and can be removed for washing. Furthermore, the so-called E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick Release System) is installed, which simplifies helmet removal in an emergency. The system can be recognized by the stickers on the right and left front and the two tabs at the bottom of the lining. The Glamster is then secured with a double D fastener, which is just as easy to operate after some practice as the ratchet fasteners often used today.

Klassischer geht es also kaum, denn zur restlichen Ausstattung gehört lediglich das mit edlen Aluminiumscheiben befestigte CJ-3 Visier, das in drei Positionen einstellbar ist und eine Pinlock Vorbereitung hat. Es kann beim Glamster per Klick unten links mit der Helmschale verriegelt werden. Diese CPB-1 Visor genannte Technik ist zwar für die Sicherheit praktisch, aber am Anfang ein wenig fummelig bis man den Dreh mit der Einhandentriegelung heraus hat. Zum Schutz vor zu viel Frischluft und dem einen oder anderen unerwünschten Besucher im Helm, gibt es noch einen abnehmbaren Windabweiser für den Kinnbereich. Ein Sonnenvisier sucht man vergeblich und auch das Anbringen eines Intercomsystems könnte eine spannende Aufgabe beim Shoei Glamster werden. Ich hatte versucht das Cardo darin zu installieren und scheiterte dabei. Weniger spannend dafür aber eben auch absolut klassisch sind die vier unteren Lüftungseinlässe, die mit silbernem Aluminiumgitter hinterlegt regelrecht hervorstechen. Die drei zur Verfügung stehenden Schalengrößen von (XS-M, L, XL-XXL) haben außerdem alle noch einen weiteren Lufteinlass im Stirnbereich, der auch während der Fahrt mit Handschuhen keine Herausforderung darstellt.

A sun visor is not to be found and also the installation of an intercom system could be an exciting task for the Shoei Glamster. Less exciting, but also absolutely classic, are the four lower ventilation inlets, which stand out with their silver aluminium grille. The three available shell sizes (XS-M, L, XL-XXL) all have an additional air inlet in the forehead area, which is no challenge even when wearing gloves.

Klotzen nicht kleckern könnte man der weilen bei der Anzahl der Farbvariationen für den Glamster vermuten. Shoei schickt zur Einführung des Modelles direkt acht verschiedene Farbvariationen an den Start. Die fünf einfarbigen Varianten starten dabei bei Preisen um die 449 Euro und gehen hoch bis zu 549 Euro bei den drei Designausführungen. Klingt erst einmal teuer und liegt über vielen Mitbewerberangeboten, aber dazu kann ich nur eins schreiben…… Fahrt ihn mal Probe und vergleicht ihn beim Thema Tragekomfort und der Haptik mal mit den Mitbewerbern, dann merkt ihr sehr schnell, er ist sein Geld wert.

Und wo wir schon beim Fahren sind! Trotz seiner klassisch und offenen Bauform ist er verhältnismäßig leise und leistet sich in dieser Disziplin keine Schwäche. Auf meiner unverkleideten Kawasaki W650, das sollte auch in etwa das Genre an Motorrädern sein welches angesprochen ist, empfand ich ihn durchweg als tollen Touren- und Reisebegleiter. Jedoch wie immer bei Helmen ist selbst ER-fahren erstes Gebot, denn jeder Kopf ist anders, jedes Gehör natürlich auch und es kommt immer darauf an welches Motorrad man wirklich gerade fährt.

And speaking of driving! Despite its classic and open design, it is relatively quiet and does not afford any weakness in this discipline. On my undisguised Kawasaki W650, which should also be the genre of motorcycles that is addressed, I found him throughout as a great touring and travel companion. However, as always with helmets, even ER-driving is the first commandment, because every head is different, every hearing of course and it always depends on which bike you are really riding.

Fazit

Der neue Shoei Glamster trifft mitten ins Zeitgeschehen, denn lange war Retro nicht so Hip wie heutzutage und dabei leistet er sich keine wirklichen Schwächen. Ein Grund, warum er bei der Kundschaft sicherlich ankommen wird, liegt an der Qualität und der hochwertigen Verarbeitung aber ggf. auch daran das wir über den Tag hinweg schon genug Schnick schnack um uns herumhaben. Mir jedenfalls zaubert diese Einfachheit ein Lächeln ins Gesicht, weil ich weiß das ich trotzdem keinerlei Einbußen in Sachen Sicherheit bei diesem Helm habe. Und dann gibt es noch einen zweiten Grund für das Lächeln. Ich habe ihn als Shoei Glamster Resurrection in Blau mit Weiß und Schwarz bekommen und Blau macht ja bekanntlich glücklich.

Conclusion

One reason why it will surely be a hit with customers is the quality and the high-class workmanship, but also the fact that we have enough gadgets around us during the day. In any case, this simplicity brings a smile to my face, because I know that I still have no loss of safety with this helmet. And then there is a second reason for the smile. I got it as Shoei Glamster Resurrection in blue with white and black and blue makes you happy.
