Cardo PACKTALK EDGE neuer Standard in Sachen Helmkommunikation (English Version Below)

Nun wer braucht eigentlich schon so eine Helmkommunikation? Eine Frage, die sich sicherlich der eine oder andere stellt, der alleine mit seinem Motorrad durch die Gegend fährt, um zu entspannen und Ruhe zu finden. Für ihn wäre es sicherlich in manchen Situationen auch eine gute Sache, wirklich interessant wird es aber für Leute, die wie wir zu zweit oder gar in einer Gruppe unterwegs sind. Man kann sich kurzerhand absprechen und abstimmen, kann unter Umständen vor Gefahrenstellen warnen oder einfach nur leise im Hintergrund der Musik lauschen. Mit dem brandneuen PACKTALK EDGE legt der Hersteller gegenüber seinen älteren Systemen nun allerdings noch eine Schippe obendrauf und verteidigt damit den Anspruch, das weltweit Beste System am Start zu haben. Mit Featuren wie der ‚‚Dynamic Mesh Communication‘‘ (DMC 2.0) und einem hochmodernen Bluetooth 5.2-Chip, der brandneuen innovativen ‚‚Air Mount‘‘-Halterung, den überarbeiteten JBL-Premium-Lautsprechern und kabellosen Software-Updates setzt das Gerät erneut diverse Standards am Markt.

Wir waren bei unseren Tests, nach der jahrelangen Nutzung des BOLD-Systems, wirklich überrascht wie schnell das EDGE einsatzfähig war. Die Verbindung untereinander war sofort aufgebaut und auch die älteren BOLDs waren ruckzuck in die Meshgruppe (bis zu 15 Teilnehmern sind möglich) integriert. Trick bei der Aufnahme älterer Modelle ist, dass eins der neuen EDGE-Geräte das Mastergerät der Meshgruppe sein muss. Die hohe Klangqualität der JBL-Lautsprecher war uns ja bereits bekannt. Neu hingegen war die Tatsache das sich alles am EDGE haptisch feiner bedienen lässt als beim alten BOLD. Die Rasterungen am Drehrad sind deutlich spürbarer und auch die Druckknöpfe wirken wertiger. Im Bereich der Technik wurde zusätzlich die Intercomqualität und das Management der DMC-Gruppen verbessert. Dies bedeutet plump ausgedrückt: Wer einmal in einer Gruppe verbunden ist, bleibt auch drin, auch wenn er kurzzeitig Lust verspürt eine andere Strecke zu fahren und den Kontakt zur Gruppe verliert. Durch das Onboarding wird er bei der nächst Kontaktmöglichkeit erneut automatisch verbunden, ohne auch nur eine Taste drücken zu müssen.‘‘

PACKTALK EDGE Bedienkomfort neu definiert

Wenn man über Bedienkomfort spricht, überzeugt unter anderem auch die neue magnetische Air-Mount-Halterung des EDGE. Sie zieht praktisch das System wie von Geisterhand in die Halterung am Helm wo es dann bombenfest fixiert ist. Und auch die schon sehr gute Sprachsteuerung wurde noch einmal überarbeitet und verbessert. Hände am Lenker und dem System sagen, was es tun soll, geht damit nun noch leichter von der Hand. Zumal Siri und Google als Assistenten zusätzlich mit den bekannten Befehlen im Hintergrund für uns arbeiten. Die ganze Elektronik wird beim Cardo PACKTALK EDGE durch ein wasserdichtes und staubgeschütztes (nicht nur spritzwassergeschütztes) stylisches Gehäuse geschützt. Die Akkulaufzeit in unseren Fahrtest und über mehrere Tage betrug im Schnitt 11-13 Stunden (je nach Nutzung, mit Navi-Ansage, Musik und Com to Com) und entsprach damit den Herstellerangaben von 13 Stunden sehr genau. War der Akku am Abend nach der Tour leer wurde er fix über die Integrierte USB-C-Buchse wieder aufgeladen. Das einzige Kabel was das EDGE im Grunde überhaupt braucht, denn die nötigen Software-Updates holt es sich online über die Cardo Connect App via Smartphone ab.

Für die musikalisch geprägten Fahrer unter uns (ich gehöre dazu) hat Cardo sich auch dem Soundprozessor noch einmal gewidmet. In Verbindung mit den nun verbesserten 40mm JBL-Lautsprechern sorgen nun drei Klangprofile (Musik, Sprache und High-Volume) für satten Sound unter der Helmschale. Und natürlich lassen sich wie schon beim BOLD auch andere Systeme und Navis via Bluetooth und einer “Bridge“ mit dem PACKTALK EDGE verbinden.

Fazit

Das neue Cardo PACKTALK EDEGE verfügt über ein rundum komplettes sowie einzigartiges Performancepaket, das mit einer Top Qualität überzeugt. Cardo steht daher auch komplett hinter seinem neuen Produkt und gewährt satte 3 Jahre Garantie auf das brandneue EDGE. Für uns ist es zudem eine echte Empfehlung gegenüber anderen Modellen, da es schmal baut und dadurch nicht so stark aufträgt, es wasserdicht ist und mit seinem ausgezeichneten Featuren überzeugt.  Das neue System kostet runde 389,95 Euro im Einzel- und faire 699,95 Euro im ‚‚DUO‘‘ Zweierpack.

Cardo PACKTALK EDGE new standard in helmet communication

Who really needs such a helmet communication system? A question that is certainly asked by some who ride their motorbike alone in order to relax and find peace. For them, it would certainly be a good thing in some situations, but it is really interesting for people who, like us, are travelling in pairs or even in a group. You can talk to each other and coordinate, possibly warn of dangerous spots or just listen to the music quietly in the background. With the brand new PACKTALK EDGE, the manufacturer has gone one better than its older systems and is defending its claim to have the best system in the world. With features such as “Dynamic Mesh Communication“ (DMC 2.0) and a state-of-the-art Bluetooth 5.2 chip, the brand-new innovative “Air Mount“ bracket, the revised JBL premium speakers and wireless software updates, the device once again sets various standards on the market.

During our tests, after years of using the BOLD system, we were really surprised how quickly the EDGE was ready for use. The connection to each other was established immediately and even the older BOLDs were integrated into the mesh group (up to 15 participants are possible) in no time. The trick to adding older models is that one of the new EDGE units must be the master unit of the mesh group. We were already familiar with the high sound quality of the JBL speakers. What was new, however, was the fact that everything on the EDGE can be haptically operated more finely than on the old BOLD. The click-stops on the rotary knob are much more noticeable and the push-buttons also seem more valuable. In the technical area, the intercom quality and the management of the DMC groups have also been improved. To put it bluntly: once you are connected to a group, you stay in it, even if you briefly feel like driving a different route and lose contact with the group. Onboarding means that they are automatically reconnected at the next contact opportunity without having to press a single button.“

PACKTALK EDGE Ease of use redefined

When talking about ease of use, one of the most convincing features is the EDGE’s new magnetic air-mount. It practically pulls the system into the holder on the helmet as if by magic, where it is then firmly fixed. And the already very good voice control has been revised and improved once again. Hands on the handlebars and telling the system what to do is now even easier. Especially since Siri and Google also work for us in the background as assistants with the familiar commands. All the electronics on the Cardo PACKTALK EDGE are protected by a waterproof and dust-proof (not just splash-proof) stylish housing. The battery life in our driving test and over several days was on average 11-13 hours (depending on use, with sat nav announcement, music and com to com) and thus corresponded very closely to the manufacturer’s specifications of 13 hours. If the battery was empty in the evening after the tour, it was quickly recharged via the integrated USB-C socket. This is basically the only cable the EDGE needs at all, because it gets the necessary software updates online via the Cardo Connect app on a smartphone.

For the musically inclined drivers among us (I’m one of them), Cardo has also taken another look at the sound processor. In conjunction with the now improved 40mm JBL speakers, three sound profiles (music, speech and high-volume) now provide rich sound under the helmet shell. And of course, as with the BOLD, other systems and navigation systems can be connected to the PACKTALK EDGE via Bluetooth and a “bridge“.

Conclusion

The new Cardo PACKTALK EDEGE has an all-round complete and unique performance package that convinces with top quality. Cardo therefore also stands completely behind its new product and grants a full 3-year warranty on the brand new EDGE. For us, it is also a real recommendation compared to other models, because it is slim and therefore not so bulky, it is waterproof and convinces with its excellent features.  The new system costs 389.95 euros for a single pack and a fair 699.95 euros for a “DUO“ pack of two.
